UNR Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering

The Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering boasts an impressive collection of academic expertise, research prowess and student success. As part of the world-renown Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering within Nevada’s College of Science, the department benefits from collaborative partners including the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, the Nevada Seismological Lab and the Department of Mining Engineering.

UNR McNair Scholars Institute Program

The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program funded at 194 institutions across the United States and Puerto?Rico by the U.S. Department of Education. It is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are either first-generation college students with financial need, or members of a group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential.?The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to increase graduate degree awards for students from underrepresented segments of society.

UNR Academy for the Environment

The Academy has worked with campus leaders to support interdisciplinary environmental research, in keeping with the University’s 2009-2015 Strategic Plan to create an environmentally sustainable Nevada. Given its new research focus, Academy for the Environment now reports to Research & Innovation.

Nevada GEAR UP

Nevada’s GEAR UP program offers opportunities for students, parents, educators and schools. GEAR UP provides services to increase basic academic skills to enable students to succeed in postsecondary education, improve GEAR UP schools through coordination with school improvement plans and to increase a common understanding of P-16 articulation issues among Nevada middle and high schools, and to increase GEAR UP student access to postsecondary education options. GEAR UP students may be eligible for up to $10,000 if they participate in GEAR UP, graduate from high school with a 2.0 GPA or higher and attend a Nevada college or university.

Cisco Networking Academy

Cisco Networking Academy is a technology education program that partners with public and private organizations to provide the knowledge and skills required for career and college-ready students. Students can attend courses at high schools, community colleges and universities across the US and Canada.

SACNAS-Chicanos and Native Americans in Science

SACNAS is a society of scientists dedicated to advancing Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in science. We are a national nonprofit organization of individuals and organizations interested in quality science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research, teaching, leadership, and policy. SACNAS fosters the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists?from college students to professionals?to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in science.

Mentornet

MentorNet helps students in engineering and science achieve their career goals by matching them with mentors in industry. Our goal is to diversify the global workforce and to level the playing field for college students in more than 65 challenging technical disciplines.

C-STEM

Since 2002, CSTEM has operated as a non-profit organization providing services to teachers and students in areas of communication, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (CSTEM). Through action research, CSTEM has developed a program that supports and services Pre K-12 pipeline teams, enriching the teaching and learning process for both teachers and students around the world.

TMCC Student Ambassador Program

The ambassadors share TMCC’s mission and vision with prospective students and distinguished college visitors. The TMCC student ambassadors represent the college in a responsible, ethical and professional manner while portraying a positive image of the institution. The ambassadors serve as college representatives while working in direct partnership with college personnel. TMCC student ambassadors strive to encourage students, staff, alumni and community involvement in the mission of the college.
