William McCool Science Center at Frank J. Lamping Elementary School

In the William McCool Science Center, science is something fun that you can touch. see, taste,small, and experience. Instead of just learning from textbooks, students at Lamping also enjoy the excitement of hands-on science in the William McCool Science center. Students have access to a space shuttle simulator, well-equipped labs, paleontology dig area, greenhouse, computers, a kitchen, a planetarium and more.

John C. Vanderburg Rainforest Biosphere

The Rainforest Biosphere is a 3,200 -square-foot ecosystem representing the Amazon Rainforest. The students at Vanderburg have taken advantage of the hands-on environment to study the rain forest and its inhabitants. Teachers have developed curriculum for all of the key biosphere areas, the Mayan temple, the rain forest environment complete with vegetation, live animals, bones and an archaeology dig sites, an amphitheater, computer lab, and “grow” lab with plants and the students can work with and take home in recycled pots.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Math and Science Magnet School At Mabel Hoggard Elementary School

Mabel Hoggard Math & Science Magnet has the distinction of being the first elementary magnet school established in Las Vegas and is accredited through the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. At Hoggard, students participate in a rigorous academic curriculum with an emphasis on science, mathematics and technology. They are taught the art of scientific investigation and mathematical problem solving with the use of computer technology. The curriculum is highly motivational with extensive hands on math and science experiences. Students receive extended programs and activities through Explorations in art, music, and physical education classes as well as the schools many outdoor and indoor laboratory programs.

Walter Bracken Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math (STEAM) Academy provides students with an education that emphasizes academic and behavioral excellence. Children explore and investigate using critical thinking skills.Career education is highlighted so that
students are taught about future opportunities. Outdoor gardens, tortoise habitats, and investigative field trips
provide additional opportunities for hands-on discovery. Parent and community support is abundant and provides our students with an optimal learning environment. We have many partnerships that involve on-site support and constantly involve them directly in our program.

iD Tech Camps at UNLV

iD Tech Camps at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, takes interests further and students gain a competitive edge for school, college, and future careers in STEM. Ages 7-17 create apps, video games, C++/Java programs, mods with Minecraft, movies, robots, and more. Week long, day and overnight summer programs held at UNLV and others.

Las Vegas Science and Technology Festival

A celebration of everything and anything science in Southern Nevada! This week-long festival offers something for everyone ? adults, school groups, kids and families with dozens of public events, a multitude of in-school K-12 and university programs, and a grand finale Expo Day. UNLV Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

The research opportunities available to our students and faculty allow them to make inquiries and observations necessary for scientific discoveries. More importantly, these discoveries are helping to protect and preserve Nevada and its citizens. Examples include geological and biosciences studies in Nevada and other arid lands, hydrogen fuel, experiments, high-pressure physics and chemistry studies, and advanced nuclear energy research.

Nevada State College TRIO Upward Bound Program

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

CSN TRIO Student Support Services

The TRiO Student Support Services program is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. We provide guidance, advocacy and academic support to low income, first generation and disabled students seeking to earn an Associate’s degree and/or transfer to a four year institution. Services are offered within a very intensive, integrated and individualized contact system that encourages participants to develop persistence, self-discipline, responsibility and confidence. Fostering of these lifelong learning skills, within the context of a learning community, enables academic, personal and professional success. All services provided to participants in the program are free.
