Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy

The Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy, part of the University of Nevada, Reno, conducts research towards the establishment of geothermal energy as an economically viable energy source within the Great Basin. The Center specializes in collecting and synthesizing geologic, geochemical, geodetic, geophysical, and tectonic data, and using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to view and analyze this data and to produce favorability maps of geothermal potential.

Great Basin College Tech Prep Program

The Tech Prep program allows high school juniors and seniors to earn GBC college credits for completing specific high school courses. Up to 21 college credits may be earned for CTE (Career & Technical Education) courses in which an A or B grade is earned.

Western Nevada College Tech Prep Program

Career and Technical Education provides a wide range of programs designed to get students into the work force immediately upon completion. The programs are designed to give students hands-on and academic experience, which translates into real-world skills.

UNLV Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

The research opportunities available to our students and faculty allow them to make inquiries and observations necessary for scientific discoveries. More importantly, these discoveries are helping to protect and preserve Nevada and its citizens. Examples include geological and biosciences studies in Nevada and other arid lands, hydrogen fuel, experiments, high-pressure physics and chemistry studies, and advanced nuclear energy research.

Nevada NASA Space Grant

The NASA Space Grant Consortium works to expand opportunities for U.S. citizens to understand and participate in NASA’s aeronautics and space programs. Through this consortium, NSHE promotes public outreach and K-12 education activities at local schools, museums and planetariums.

Nevada NASA Space Grant Consortium

The Nevada NASA Space Grant Consortium was established in 1991 with a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA and is comprised of Nevada’s eight state institutions of higher learning.

We support the national agenda to develop a strong math, science, engineering and technology education base through the funding of research and higher education programs, and by supporting students through scholarships, fellowships and internships, and by partnering with industry and local government.

Our academic member institutions consist of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), Nevada State College (NSC) in Henderson, Western Nevada College (WNC) in Carson City, Great Basin College (GBC) in Elko, Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) in Reno, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) in Las Vegas, and the Desert Research Institute (DRI) with locations in Las Vegas and Reno.
